Shadowlands is at the Aldwych Theatre, London, with Hugh Bonneville starring as C.S. Lewis. Set in Oxford, the play follows Lewis’s ordered academic life as it is changed by the arrival of the American poet Joy Davidman, developing into a story about love and the fragile beauty of life.
Written by William Nicholson and based on his own original BAFTA Award-winning TV movie, Shadowlands became a West End success, won the Evening Standard Award for Best Play and later transferred to Broadway, where it won a Tony Award. It was also adapted into a 1993 feature film directed by Richard Attenborough, starring Anthony Hopkins and Debra Winger.
Originally a sell-out production at Chichester Festival Theatre, this is a strictly limited engagement at the Aldwych Theatre from 5 February.
Key facts: Evening performances are at 7.30pm and matinees are at 2.30pm. A £48 offer ticket is available.
There are no exchanges or refunds.
