The Comedy About Spies is back in London’s West End at the Adelphi Theatre for a limited 8-week run this summer. From Mischief, the team behind The Play That Goes Wrong, Peter Pan Goes Wrong and The Comedy About a Bank Robbery, it was named Best New Play at the WhatsOnStage Awards 2026.
The show is a 1960s spy comedy set around London’s Piccadilly Hotel, where a rogue British agent has taken plans for a top-secret weapon and CIA and KGB spies arrive in pursuit of the missing file. The story follows a clueless young couple, a hapless actor hoping for a spy film role, and a mix of double agents, mistaken identities and confused missions.
Described by reviewers as a fast-moving and very funny espionage farce, the production has already played a sold-out summer season in 2025 before returning to London. It is designed as a theatrical comedy built around misunderstandings, tangled identities and escalating chaos.
Key facts: Running time is 2 hours 20 minutes, including a 20 minute interval.
Age guidance: recommended for ages 10+. Children under 4 will not be admitted into the theatre.
