At 4 Soho Place, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind is a new musical telling the true story of William Kamkwamba, a boy who hopes to build a windmill and bring power and hope to his family and village as drought closes in on their farm. With only library books and scraps of old machinery to work with, he has to rely on what he can find and what he can learn.
Based on William Kamkwamba’s memoir and Chiwetel Ejiofor’s film, this world premiere is directed by Lynette Linton, formerly Artistic Director of the Bush Theatre. The book and lyrics are by Richy Hughes, with music and lyrics by Tim Sutton.
Key facts: World premiere; dates 26th April to 18th July.
