The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind is a new musical at Soho Place, telling the true story of William Kamkwamba. William wants to build a windmill, but with drought closing in on his family’s farm and village, he has to rely on library books and scraps of old machinery to try to make it happen.
The production is based on William Kamkwamba’s memoir and Chiwetel Ejiofor’s film. It is a world premiere, directed by Lynette Linton, with book and lyrics by Richy Hughes and music and lyrics by Tim Sutton.
Key facts: Age recommendation 9+. Runs 26th April to 18th July.
Content warning: this production contains loud music and flashing lights, and includes themes of violence and death.
Performance note: the performance on 20th June at 2.30pm will no longer be an integrated BSL performance; it will be a regular BSL performance.
