The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind at Soho Place is a new musical based on the true story of William Kamkwamba. Set as drought closes in on his family’s farm and the village he loves, it follows William as he tries to build a windmill with only library books and scraps of old machinery.
Nobody believes he can do it, not his father or his friends, and the story centres on his determination when hope feels out of reach. It is based on his memoir and on Chiwetel Ejiofor’s film.
This world premiere is directed by Lynette Linton, with book and lyrics by Richy Hughes and music and lyrics by Tim Sutton.
