About The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind

The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind at sohoplace is a new musical based on the true story of William Kamkwamba, a boy who tries to build a windmill to bring power and hope to his village.

Set on a drought-hit farm, the story follows William as he works with library books and scraps of old machinery while those around him doubt what he can do. The production is a world premiere.

It is directed by Lynette Linton, with book and lyrics by Richy Hughes and music and lyrics by Tim Sutton. The show is based on William Kamkwamba’s memoir and Chiwetel Ejiofor’s film.

Key facts: Dates: 26th April - 18th July. Age recommendation: 9+. Contains loud music and flashing lights, and themes of violence and death.
