About

From Colne in Lancashire, the Milltown Brothers first burst onto the indie scene in 1989 with the 'Coming From The Mill EP' getting single of the week in NME.

Second indie single 'Which Way Should I Jump' started a bidding war between the majors. Signing to A&M Records & EMI Publishing in 1990, ‘Which Way Should I Jump’ was re-recorded & broke into the UK charts at Number 38. America liked it too – it reached number 10 in the US Rock Chart. Singles ‘Apple Green’ & ‘Here I Stand’ also entered the UK top 40.

The band toured the UK endlessly as a headline act and also toured with bands such as The Pixies, The La’s, The Charlatans, Ride, The Wonderstuff and James, building up a loyal and large live following, culminating in a main stage appearance at Reading Festival in 1992. The band were supported by an up-and-coming OASIS at Manchester University in 1994.

The debut album - Slinky - was a revelation and pushed the boundaries for their peers. Defying the critics who had incorrectly labelled them as baggy, the MBs delivered an absolute classic album of catchy, punchy songs, perfectly paced & balanced.

The album received a maximum 5 stars in Q Magazine, one of only 5 bands to ever receive 5 stars. Two more albums followed and a fourth ‘Long Road’ in 2014 after a lengthy hiatus.

Fast forward to 2021. The Milltown Brothers returned with the release of a new fifth album ‘Stockholm’ on Stanley Records later in the year.

The title track, ‘Stockholm’, is available via their social media channels and as a digital download. The song expresses the band’s enduring vision of honesty, simplicity and optimism:

“There’s a lot to talk about when you’ve nothing to hide”

The band recently made a return to the live arena with a much-lauded sold-out show at the iconic Hebden Bridge Trades Club in August 2023

The band are very much looking forward to playing a much-anticipated show at Kanteena, Lancaster on Saturday 25th November 2023.
