All DJs play 90 minute ‘Blue Note’ era sets.

The Metalheadz “Blue Note” sessions originally ran on Sundays (1995-1997) at the legendary Blue Note Club, later becoming iconic in recognition of how cutting-edge drum & bass innovation and experimentation was fused with a jazz-club intimacy, creating a space where DJs could evolve the genre from hardcore and into deeper, more musical territory for the almost ritual-devoted audiences.

The sessions were defined by long, immersive sets, unreleased dubplates, and a crowd that mixed hardcore ravers with A-list artists and tastemakers, strengthening the music’s credibility and mystique.

The reputation was further amplified by the presence of cultural heavyweights like David Bowie, who was known to regularly attend, reinforcing the sense that something genuinely groundbreaking and culturally important was happening in the small, smoky basement.

The sound system and acoustics at the Blue Note Club were also a big part of its reputation, allowing subtle textures and bass lines to come through in a way that most clubs couldn’t reproduce at the time – We honour that pioneering influence with a big wall of Sheffield’s finest – Raze Sound System, to platform the sub-low frequencies, upgrading how they were first experienced back in the mid 90s.
