The Science of Narcissism with Dr Madoka Kumashiro

About

Do you suspect someone in your life is a narcissist? Have you dated a narcissist? Or worked for a narcissistic boss? News and social media sites are full of stories of narcissistic leaders and relationship partners, and research findings suggest that levels of narcissism are rising. The term narcissism is thrown around casually, but what exactly is narcissism? And if narcissists get such a bad reputation, why does it seem that so many narcissistic people seem to be successful?

Join personality and social psychologist Dr Madoka Kumashiro for an illuminating talk exploring narcissism, why we seem to be initially drawn to narcissists, and why relationships with narcissists are often problematic. We will also discuss different types and dimensions of narcissism and which dimensions of narcissism have been found to be beneficial vs toxic.

The talk will focus on non-clinical narcissism and not on clinical Narcissistic Personality Disorder (a formal mental health condition that can significantly impact ability to function in life) – research shows that non-clinical narcissism is on a spectrum, with many successful people displaying ‘healthy’ levels of narcissism.

Doors open at 7pm, talk starts at 7.30pm - come down early to grab a good seat!
