Uncover Music & Yampy Promotions present Polite Bureaux + guests
“A northern Mike Skinner, our generation’s Sleaford Mods over Underworld-like electronic instrumentals and pure post punk stage presence. To come across a band so wildly obscure, yet all their words feel so familiar is remarkable. I have never smiled so much during a set.” The Everyday
Bradford, UK — Northern art-punk renegades Polite Bureaux are shaking up the UK underground once again with the announcement of their debut album, Except You Skint — a biting play on words that captures the chaos, humour, and heartache of life in austerity Britain.
Fusing punk energy with electronic grit and working-class poetry, Polite Bureaux have been described as “a future generational album of electronic berserkness, post-punk riffs and charisma-tinged references.” The Everyday
Known for their incendiary live shows and unapologetically northern storytelling, the group continue to rise from the Bradford DIY scene with a defiant message and a fiercely loyal following. The Everyday Magazine writes that listening to their new album you “feel present in every room, every fucked-up situation ... an indirect attack on the righteous left wing academics.” The Everyday
Fresh from performing at the legendary The Great Escape and at St George’s Hall for the ContainsStrongLanguageFestival — sharing the stage with the likes of Anthony Szmerik — Polite Bureaux are proving themselves as one of the UK’s most vital new voices. Their track “LIDL FIDDLE”, featuring Emily Pilbeam, was featured on the BBC6Music Mixtape, introduced as “the story of the town where everything is closing down — even the pound shop shut down.”
This year saw the band an 11-night UK tour with cult favourites The Lovely Eggs, performing to packed crowds across the country — often alongside household names such as Frank Skinner and Phil Jupitus. During one show, The Lovely Eggs’ Holly Ross jokingly tested the crowd:
“Did you enjoy Polite Bureaux? Do you know who Polite Bureaux are?”
The crowd shouted back, “Yes!”
Holly laughed and said, “OK, if you know, what’s the singer’s first name?”
Someone yelled “Jeff!” — to which she replied, “No you don’t, so go buy a record!”
Now, with Except You Skint set for release later this year, Polite Bureaux are ready to make their next statement — equal parts social commentary, satire, and sonic experimentation. The record delivers a raw and wry exploration of modern survival, told through pounding beats, jagged guitars, and kitchen-sink lyricism.
“In an age of people broadcasting what they want people to think they’re thinking, there’s a humility in showing what’s actually on our minds.” The Everyday
“We wanted to write something that sounds like the North feels. It’s ugly, it’s funny, it’s broke, and it’s brilliant. That’s Except You Skint.” — [Frontperson Name]
Having already caught the attention of indie press, The Everyday Magazine and the BBC Introducing scene, Polite Bureaux’s rise continues to prove that art and resistance still thrive in the cracks of Britain’s cultural landscape.
