Join us in celebrating the legendary Janet Kay MBE — award-winning reggae artist, actress, songwriter, and creative entrepreneur. Honoured in the King Charles III Honours List 2023, Janet received an MBE for her outstanding contribution to music.
🌟 In 1979, Janet made history as the first British-born Black female reggae artist to top the UK Pop Charts with her timeless hit “Silly Games”, produced by Dennis Bovell — a song that captivated audiences across Europe.
🎤 Her debut album Capricorn Woman remains a best-seller, with nearly all tracks written by Janet herself, showcasing her lyrical brilliance.
🏆 That same year, Janet was awarded Best Female Vocalist, Best 7″ Vinyl Single, and Best 12″ Vinyl Single by Black Echoes Music Newspaper.
🎵 Beyond reggae, Janet’s soulful side emerged with the underground hit “Eternally Grateful”, and a stunning collaboration with reggae legend Jackie Mittoo on the Randy Crawford classic “You Bring the Sun Out.”
