Biography

The Reads straddle the border of North Wales & the North West of England and have been together in some form or other since the start of the millennium. As in the year 2,000. Not the one before.

After years of writing together and producing carefully crafted home recordings, they got their big break in 2010 when a friend of the band offered to fund their debut album ‘Stories from the Border’ (2011). The album was produced and mixed by Jim Spencer (The Charlatans, Jonny Marr, New Order), mastered by Frank Arkwright (The Smiths, Arcade Fire, Gomez) and featured string and brass arrangements written by Joe Duddell (Elbow, James, Richard Hawley). The Reads teamed up with both Jim and Frank again to record their follow-up ‘Lost at Sea’ (2014), which was recorded at The Charlatans’ Big Mushroom studios. After a longer-than-planned hiatus, they have recently finished recording their as yet untitled third album and are excited to share the fruits of their labour when the album is released later this year.

Their music has been played nationally on BBC Radio 2, XFM and Amazing Radio. They have been ‘Artist of the Week’ on BBC Radio Wales several times and have performed numerous live sessions for their shows. Further support has been received from BBC Radio Merseyside all of which has led them to have a small, but loyal fan base across the country.
