Biography

DJ Mayhem (Martin Ikin) has been DJ’ing and Producing music since 1990. He has spent the last fifteen years plus, releasing records on many labels under an array of different names, and now has a list of classics under his belt.

As well as DJ’ing, Producing and spending some years employed as in-house engineer at recording studios, Martin also studied jazz piano, has been bandleader of several jazz funk outfits and is still gigging, session playing and teaching piano today.

Including all his work for other labels Martin started his own label –

SOUL PURPOSE in 2003 with artists such as Juliet Roberts, Angie Brown, Mary Pearce, Elisabeth Troy & Bryan Chambers joining the camp. Now with a host of great artists, collaborations and releases, Soul Purpose has built a reputation for quality house music and is going from strength to strength.

Some of the many labels Martin has released music on include his 2005 club anthem “Salsa House” on Defected Records, his 2006 Jamiroquai “Space Cowboy” remix on Sony Records, his collaborations with Elisabeth Troy as ‘Indigo’ on

Swing City Records, his remix work on SoulFuric Records

His collaborations with, Craig C and Joey Musaphia,

his remix work for Mariah Carey on Island Records and now his remix work for Ministry Of Sound & Hed Kandi Records.

Martins latest project is a collaboration with Grant Nelson as underground outfit ‘mi:grant’

Martin has always taken pride in everything he does and is very much a perfectionist whether playing in a band, dj’ing or producing!
