Biography

With her latest work being described as 'a seminal piece of art', 'ethereal' and 'killing', Zola Marcelle is a name you will undoubtedly hear more of.

Born - quite literally, her mother's water broke - and raised in church, Zola began her musical journey in what she describes as a safe and ruthless space. At age 11, her sister introduced her to a recording studio where she laid down a verse with a world artist by the name Peter Mawanga on his song ‘Heal The Pain’. At age 17 she would MD, organise and play admin for her own headline show ‘Jazz Through The Years’ and get her first gig as backing vocalist at the Jazz Cafe. Before university Zola had sung at venues such as Wembley Stadium, O2 Islington, The Royal Albert Hall and countless others with various outfits.

It's at The Leeds College of Music that Zola met and played with some of her now long-time friends and musical collaborators such as Aron Kyne (Shingai, THABO), Geo Jordan (The Hics, Shingai, Lianne La Havas), Ashley Henry and Hunrosa (Cinematic Orchestra).

Her latest EP featuring a unique concept of solely bass & vocals has been given the nod by various musical peers such as Gilles Peterson, Femi Koleoso of Ezra Collective, and RCRD SHOP. She has since played live with her bass trio at the EFG London Jazz Festival, The Jazz Cafe and The Southbank Centre. This unique setup is truly a special sight and sound to behold.
