Biography

Since hitting the local open mic scene in late 2018 it’s been the rise and rise of Rolling Thunder. The energetic 5 piece have swept across the Midlands entertaining at numerous venues across their home county of Northants and beyond. The band demonstrated their true potential when playing in front of German crowds at MaNo Festival, after being invited to play in 2020. Fast forward to 2022 and the boys played their biggest stage to date when they entertained crowds at the Silverstone MotoGP.

Singer Charlie Smith & songwriter Ryan Kelly formed the group at school whilst studying the Vietnam War, hence the name. It wasn’t long before Harry Clayton was drafted in; not just to play, but first learn the guitar. Joel Sweet followed, also learning his instrument (bass) from scratch. Harry’s cousin Josh Green completed the outfit, coming in to play the drums.

The guitar driven band combine a mixture of indie 80’s, 90’s rock ‘n’ roll guitar & modern indie music. Being a group of mates who happen to be a band rather than a collection of musicians, gives the band its unique, easy-going nature. This genuine friendship is what makes the live shows so incredible, with the mixture of sheer excitement, enjoyment and charm creating an electrifying nervous energy that continues to captivate crowds. Intimate, sweaty shows with crowds bounching to their songs is what gives the boys their kicks.
