A true clubber at heart, the real spark for Mike Beaumont’s DJ career came from his debut visit to the mighty Gatecrasher night at the late Republic for the 8th Birthday. Having been introduced to the premier clubbing experience, he left wanting more which is where his quest throughout trance began! Now a number of years later and having played alongside a host of the most established names in the industry, the man’s diverse sounding sets has lead to Mike’s name being a familiar one throughout the club scene.
It was as a resident DJ for Sheffield trance nights Noize and Statik, where the regular sets and growing reputation landed Beaumont sets at the legendary Gatecrasher White Party and 16th Birthday pre-parties. This lead onto what can only be described as an explosive debut for OTR (Off the Rails), where the event made a long awaited return as part of the Insomniacz 10th Birthday in Sheffield. It was here Mike was announced as one of the new residents for OTR ahead of the much anticipated re-launch in 2009.
With the OTR brand going from strength to strength, Mike has enjoyed some epic moments behind the decks during his time as resident. From warming up for Roger Shah’s live 3 hour set to taking the reigns from local trance legend Matt Hardwick at the mighty Magna, closing proceedings at the 4th Birthday event as well as reliving ‘the golden era’ for all those Crasher regulars at the sell-out Journey Through Trance nights…Beaumont has proven he has the musical knowledge and the ability to mix it up with the best in the business.
Since gaining the OTR residency, the sets have come in thick and fast for Mike, gaining sets at a host of the countries biggest nights. Highlights include a peak time set at the PaSSion birthday event before a return to the Emporium for the main room debut last December. There have also been couple of visits to the Leeds o2 Academy for the A-listed headliner events hosted by Digital Society, providing the support for acts including Above & Beyond, Markus Schulz and Andy Moor.
Other highlights for Beaumont’s DJ career include winning the national Gatecrasher ‘Kill the Lights’ DJ competition in December 2009 as hosted by Matt Hardwick, with the prize a warm up set alongside Hardwick and Radio 1’s Judge Jules at Digital, Newcastle.
