York Dungeon - Anytime Entry takes you through 2,000 years of York’s darker history. At York Dungeon, you move through live scenes that bring the city’s past to life, with actors, immersive sets and special effects used throughout the experience.

The attraction covers stories and characters from York’s murky past, including Vikings and their Saxon enemies, Guy Fawkes, Isabella Billington, the Black Death and a torture chamber. It is designed to be part history lesson, part theatrical experience, with the chance to see, hear and smell the city’s more gruesome stories.

For visitors deciding whether it suits them, the experience is built around dramatic storytelling and dark historical themes rather than a conventional museum visit.

Key facts: younger visitors must be aged 5 and over; it is not recommended for under 8s.
