Founded in 1999 by a small group of music lovers and youth workers, AudioActive began with a simple mission - to make music accessible to all young people, regardless of background. What started as a handful of community sessions has grown into a county-wide movement, nurturing creativity, confidence and connection through free, open-access opportunities for young people aged 12-25.
Born out of the Hangleton and Knoll neighbourhood development charity, AudioActive grew from grassroots community projects into a movement rooted in the sounds and social influence of Black and underground music. Over time, our work expanded beyond Brighton, connecting a network of artists, mentors and young people experimenting across genres - from grime, jazz and soul to spoken word and production. Today, we're a thriving charity shaping the next generation of creative talent and social change across Sussex.
Since opening in April 2022, AudioActive Worthing on Montague Street has marked an exciting new chapter for us as an organisation, and hopefully for Worthing as a town.
This creative hub sits in the heart of the high street and offers a welcoming home for our free-to-access music sessions, as well as a new focal point for creativity in the community. Inside, you'll find a fully equipped music production suite, community and resident studio spaces, and a ground-floor live venue.
Worthing's music scene has grown rapidly in recent years, with an ever-strengthening network of artists, promoters and venues bringing fresh energy to the town. Yet accessible, affordable spaces to create and collaborate remain few and far between. Our Worthing hub was designed to change that, giving young people, emerging musicians and grassroots creatives a visible, central place to make music, share ideas and build community.
