Daylight Ravin Time #5 :: 1st Birthday :: Sat 7th March for a DJ set.

We're over the moon to be able to bring back rave legend Altern8 to Taunton to celebrate our 1st Birthday in the only way we know!!!!

Mark Archer was a founding member of Bizzare Inc, before forming Nexus 21 and having huge success on the international house/techno/rave scene. As a kind of alter-ego to that, Altern 8 was formed inStaffordin 1990.

From the outset, the band's objective was to develop their style which was influenced by the musical elements ofDetroit technoartistsDerrick May,Juan AtkinsandKevin Saunderson, as well as the Chicagohouse musicsound ofPhutureand early electronic pioneers such asKraftwerk.[citation needed]Although in the inlay of their first album they credit Manchester-based British acid house group808 State, by thanking them for starting the UK rave scene.[citation needed]

Altern 8 tunes influenced many artists, with their mixture of the sounds of theRoland TB-303,808and909with break-beats and familiarsamples. At the time in the UK, outdoor rave events were legal, and Altern 8 had a reputation for turning up to play at major unofficial events. They helped to define harder house tracks relying more heavily onbassand volume. The use of more bass and eclectic noises gradually evolved Altern 8's music away from the earlier house music style. The duo, dressed in chemical warfare suits and dancing "like electrofied monkeys", took part in a large number of live performances.[5]

In 1991, Altern 8 released their first single, "Infiltrate 202".[6]The same year, the band did a live performance in the car park outsideShelley'snight club inLongton,Stoke-on-Trent, which can be seen in the video for their second single, "Activ 8 (Come With Me)".
