An evening of musical contrasts suffused with colour, mood, and the quiet beauty of night. The programme opens with Morten Lauridsen's Nocturnes, ravishing settings of French, Spanish and English poetry that shimmer with an almost luminous stillness. Interspersed will be two intimate nocturnes by Chopin and John Field, evoking the quiet poetry of the night.
Virtuoso pianist David Owen Norris will bring the first half to a close with sparkling wit and brilliance in his own arrangement of Joseph Horovitz’s Jazz Concerto.
Will Todd's exhilarating Mass in Blue crowns the evening, fusing choral tradition with jazz and gospel in a work of irresistible warmth and rhythmic vitality, with soprano Hannah Williams and jazz quartet providing the accompanying musical fireworks.
