neu waves presents #143 at The Deco with London's This Is The Deep and local to Portsmouth, Traces
// This Is The Deep //
This Is The Deep are a genre-bending collective formed by visual artist and musician Ranny (Ranald) Macdonald, as a way to explore the space between music and painting. The group draw on the songcraft of 50's and '60s pop classicism, with cinematic, Phil Spector-like arrangements and the experimental approach of artists like David Lynch. Through the inclusion of artists within their group they bring out and pass around ideas from their music into animations, giant painted sets, and theatrical performances. -shaping a singular and immersive world of sound and imagery.

// Traces //
Traces are a four-piece from Portsmouth, formed in 2025 and made up of Josie, Harry, Ayden and Anton.
Drawing from influences including Fleetwood Mac, Metronomy, PJ Harvey and Arcade Fire, Traces provide a mixture of considered and upbeat, synth-infused indie-pop music which delves into feelings of ranging from shoe-gazey anxiety through to anthemic contentment.
Having played their debut gig at Ice Breaker in January, Traces are in the process of recording their first EP with Portsmouth producer, Jim Harding, at his woodsy Casemates studio and are further embedding their roots in the Southsea music scene.
