Portsmouth pub, Fleet on Kings Henry 1 Street is set to temporarily close later this week to undergo refurbishment. The pub which is owned and operated by Stonegate Pub Company, will be re-opened by special guest Lord Mayor of Portsmouth Frank Jonas on Thursday 31 January. Customers are invited to join General Manager Maggie Hewlett and her team as they celebrate the re-opening with a champagne and canapé reception from 7pm. The pub will continue the celebrations into Friday 1 February with a party and live music from hugely popular covers band ‘Up the Beat’. The refurbishment has resulted in a new style of traditional pub being created at the site offering quality food, real ales and a wide selection of wine and spirits. Three real ale pumps will be added offering award-winning national ales as well as more quirky craft beers, whilst several new sky-linked plasma screens are to be installed so sport lovers need never miss live action of their favourite sport. The layout of the interior has been cleverly designed to create smaller intimate areas perfect for groups of friends to meet or for people to dine away from noise, as well as areas for dedicated to sports viewing or entertainment. Outside, the huge beer garden is to be spruced up with new furniture, lighting and planting in readiness for Spring. “We have a number of changes we are introducing at the pub which we’re sure will be a hit with our customers. For example, we are introducing homemade roast dinners and all-day breakfasts every Sunday, the perfect way to spend the day of rest! said Maggie Hewlett, Fleet’s manager. “Regular nights set to become a feature including rock’n’roll bingo on Tuesdays - believe me not to be missed - our quiz night on Thursdays and a twice-monthly Friday night live music night.
