The Alyn Shipton Quarter present the music of Gerry Mulligan
Music Genres
Jazz
The Gerry Mulligan quartet of the 1950s was the first group in jazz not to have a “chordal” instrument such as a guitar or piano. Its records, of such classics as “Bernie’s Tune”, “Walking Shoes”, “My Funny Valentine” and “Line For Lyons”, made it one of the most popular groups of its time, that changed the face of jazz. Following his recent book on the Gerry Mulligan 1950s Quartets, bassist and broadcaster Alyn Shipton brings this music brilliantly back to life with a band of sympathetic and excellent musicians.
