About

THE EVENT

The 13th of April 2024 will see a fantastic selection of local and not-so-local bands and artists perform at Todmorden Unitarian Church for the Annual Mayor of Todmorden’s Charity Ball.

Join us for a night of fantastic live music, food, drinks, and community spirit in a gorgeous setting.

We have four tiers of tickets available on a pay-what-you-can basis. They’re all the same and any will get you in to the event, so please pick whichever ticket you can afford.

This is an all ages event, but under 16's must be accompanied by an adult please.  Children under 10 can attend free of charge.

All money raised will be going straight to the mayor’s chosen charity.

THE CAUSE

This year the Mayor’s charity is Todmorden-based EMpowered People, a fantastic organisation that supports adults with disabilities from all backgrounds - regardless of gender, race, or level of ability - to improve their health and wellbeing through cycling and other activities. EMpowered People does this by providing tools, support and encouragement, enabling and – most importantly, empowering - its service users to achieve their personal targets at their own pace.

After the amazing success of the inaugural Mayor’s Ball last year and the money raised for Dementia Friendly Todmorden, we just had to do this again. Once again, Todmorden Unitarian Church are kindly hosting the ball, and we can’t wait to welcome you to the incredible surroundings of this Victorian Gothic Revival church.

And, if you listen carefully, and you might just catch a bit of a ‘Wicker Man’ vibe from some of the amazing musicians lined up to entertain you.

THE LINEUP

The night will start with the inspired spiritual soundscapes of Todmorden’s own mho (Dave Walker) who is well known at electronic music events up and down the country for his cinematic sound creations.

Rebecca Denniff’s Subphotic will fill the chambers of our building on the hill with her dark and mesmerising folktronic music from beneath the photic zone. Rebecca conjures the music of nature, folklore and the hidden world to create a unique sound that at once warms the heart and tingles the spine.

Next up, Vieon will be bringing their full audiovisual live show to the proceedings. With members based in Todmorden and Coventry, Vieon will take you on a musical journey through 70s and 80s electronic film soundtracks and lush synthpop, all filtered through a long-time appreciation for post-rock and IDM.

John Peel Festive Fifty veterans and chart-bothering pop anarchists, Lancashire’s Spray will be rolling out the hits for a set of upbeat electronic pop that will make you dance, sing, and live your best life.

Finally, our very own rock and roll mayor Tyler Hanley will be ending the night with his fantastic band Callis. They play what they describe as ‘a valley sound’ that brings together an Orielles-like jangly psych tone with heavy doomy hint of BJM. The band’s recording Dream Sequence is laden with dark and driving rhythms inspired by the Cure and Bauhaus, and has been is recorded by Seattle producer Gordon Raphael. Not to be missed!
