Kar Pouzi

Helen Papaioannou is a composer and performer based in Leeds. Some of her other projects have included That Long Moonless Chase with Noriko Okaku, Garlic Hug, Beauty Pageant, Hokkett.

Helen's compositions and performances draw from her varied experiences across electronic music, DIY band scenes, improvised musics, and experimental ensemble compositions. She is based in Leeds (UK).

Across her work, Helen’s style derives partly from a fascination with minimal sound palettes and procedural, evolving repetitions, matched with an unrelenting intensity that spills out into music that is at once stark, visceral, playful, and precarious. She indiscriminately mixes a jigsaw of ideas, techniques and sounds from cultures of industrial, drone, no wave, contemporary composition, and electronic music. She has featured at MATA (USA), HCMF (UK), Supersonic (UK), Supernormal (UK), Kanazawa 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art (JP), and across tours in UK, Europe and Japan.

Helen’s ensemble compositions have often played with systems that intensify a focus on the interpersonal and social aspects of coordinating rhythmic actions or patterns. She explores this in various ways, from traditionally notated music revolving around hocketing, interlocking parts or persistent unison rhythms, to instructional text scores which focus on rules for patterns and systems of interactions in game-like scenarios.

Helen collaborates with various artists, from her audiovisual performances with Noriko Okaku, moving image scores, projects with researchers in sciences and social sciences, to improvised performances with a range of musicians. Helen is currently part of an improvised electronics and percussion duo with Charlie Collins, focusing on very quiet sounds.

Misery Bacon

Misery Bacon is a solo audio project by Luke Drozd, an artist, illustrator and musician based in Bergen, Norway. Luke's commercial illustration work takes a variety of forms, including screen printed posters, album and merchandise design for music. His writing, performance and sculpture practice has evolved through different collective projects including "spoken-weird" duo Reet Maff'l with musician Andy Abbott and co-founding the small-press cassette label Bloxham Tapes, of which Sensory Leakage is an outlier. Drozd's work as Misery Bacon continues his interests in collaging, collecting and the overlooked.

ADRA

Andy Abbott is an artist, musician and writer who lives in West Yorkshire, UK. For a long time Andy was synonymous with pummelling noise; playing guitar in celebrated Leeds bands such as the ferocious duo That Fucking Tank or the double-drumming psych outfit Nope. However, in recent years - under his solo moniker ADRA - he has been making minimalist abstract music, alongside more acoustic and ambient-leaning explorations.

Previous releases include tapes and vinyl for Bloxham Tapes, Reverb Worship and Folklore Tapes. He has collaborated with Alice Hubble, Aby Vulliamy and Dean McPhee; and shared tours and bills with Maurizio Abate and Above the Tree, Edgars Rubenis, Ex-Easter Island Head and Norway's Soft Noise Ensemble.

In 2024 Andy released 'Music For Psychiatric Wards (And Fluid Structures)'; a compilation of recordings inspired by his experiences as a creative practitioner performing ambient music in psychiatric wards across Yorkshire in 2023

His current ‘ADRA-phonics’ electric guitar set utilises multiple amplifiers and loop pedals to create an immersive ‘sphere of sound’.

“This is another solo project helmed by the Bradford based musician Andrew DR Abbott, whose work cartwheels through genres the way fat old men wish they could move through cheese. It is the first documentation of ADRA, and it’s quite a package ... The music is improvised on a variety of instruments (from baritone guitar to ocarina), and the pieces are designed to inspire us to dream of a post-capitalist utopia. Since I do that all the time already, this is just the sort of thing I should be listening to. As should you. A great offering of the minimal as maximal.” - Byron Coley for The Wire, 2020
