About

The Often Herd transcend the traditional boundaries of Americana and bluegrass music. Although they might resemble an American string band, complete with driving energy, tight vocal harmonies and dazzling instrumental interplay, their vibrant, transatlantic sound is deeply coloured by their surroundings; the striking natural and industrial landscapes of Northern England.

2025 International Bluegrass Music Association award recipients, resulting in showcase performances in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and a US tour in summer 2026 which will include Nashville's legendary Grand Ole Opry, the band is currently working on a follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut album, Where the Big Lamp Shines. The band's recent singles, 'Cool Summer Rain' and 'Remember My Name' were championed by the legendary Bob Harris, who named them a 'Horizon Artist' on BBC Radio 2 in September 2025.

Rupert Hughes (guitar)

Evan Davies (mandolin)

Niles Krieger (fiddle)

Sam Quintana (bass)

"Gutsy, rustic, passionate, articulate - they've got it all. Virtuous virtuosity." - Spirit of Progressive Rock

"Traditional, inventive, tight and sharp [...] for those who think they don't like bluegrass this could be the point they change their minds." - FolkWords

"A study in virtuosity from a supremely talented group of musicians." - NARC

With support from BBC Introducing breakout star and indie-country artist Hels Pattison, straight off the back of her 'Just What I Do' UK tour
