A Tale of Destructive Jealousy……An Oratorio by George Frideric Handel

There are important roles, apart from Saul and David,forhis son Jonathan and his 2 pretty daughters Michal and Merab. The cast also features a priest, a witch! and an advisor. There is much for the chorus {the Choral Society] to do,representing the Israelite people. The music is pretty hefty, Handel opting for a large orchestra and the most varied instrumentation of the time .Our interpretation, however,uses a small baroque ensemble with chamber organ and harpsichord. The ‘Dead March’ from Act Three is commonly used as part of funeral services across the world[notably Churchill, Washington and Abraham Lincoln].
