Headline

Fergus Quill is a composer, arranger and bassist from Leeds. Since graduating from the Leeds Conservatoire in 2017, he has become an established performer within the city's live music scene, building a reputation for original compositions that reflect an eclectic spectrum of influences ranging from Sidney Bechet to Boredoms.

The Fergus Quill Trio is an ensemble composed of Fergus (double bass/acoustic piano/vocals), Nicco Widdowson (acoustic piano/Fender Rhodes/percussion/vocals) and Theo Goss (drums/percussion/vocals), drawing inspiration from the whole range of 20th, 21st and 22nd century improvised music: from Jelly Roll Morton to Pharoah Sanders to Derek Bailey.

In 2022, the Trio released their second album, '¡Blamo!' for independent Leeds label Tight Lines Music. The album pays homage to the Spaghetti Westerns of the 1960s and 1970s and in particular, the soundtrack music written by Italian composer maestro Ennio Morricone. The tracks merge film theme/soundtrack style music with jazz improvisation and feature a host of guest artists from Leeds' buzzing independent music scene.

Support

The Harvey Parkin-Christe Orkestar. Three individuals of the Leeds free improvised music scene: Harvey Parkin-Christie (Saxophones) / Joel Steadman (Bass clarinet & Flute) / Teruki Chan (Drums) join together to perform for the first time. A dynamic Trio rooted in tradition and heritage, exploring reed music from Eastern Europe to North Africa. Channeling the spirit and lineage of free jazz practitioners: Milford Graves, Albert Ayler & Peter Brötzmann. Raw, colourful, uncompromising original music.

Great coffee and alcoholic beverages are available for purchase at the venue.
