About

In a first for _and friends, this scratch night programme will be performed simultaneously in Glasgow and Cardiff showcasing excerpts from six brand new plays by Scotland + Wales-based playwrights.

Doors 7pm for 7:30pm start.

VORTEX by Zoë Bullock - Sasha is a mess: guilt-ridden, self-obsessed, and catastrophe-inclined. But why has she ended up like this? What exactly happened to her best friend Helen? And more importantly, when she starts being able to manifest tornadoes, what will she do with her newfound powers of destruction?

CHEERS, DRIVE by Elliot Blakemore - When Anwen - an elderly lady prone to confusion - finds her usual bus driver has been replaced with another, her journey is sent awry. Confusing events from the past with the present, Anwen tries to piece together what her reality is, and where in fact she is headed.

SIN EATER by Ruth Glynn - Maurice's grieving mother Yvonne insists a professional sin eater conduct the ancient rite at her son's funeral, but his disbelieving wife Kay is less than thrilled.

MY TEACHER HATES ME (AND OTHER HALLUCINATIONS) by Tomos Price - Theo is excited to hand in his homework, until he realises at the last minute that Nelly the dog has eaten it. Can he overcome his anxious brain and a series of worst-case scenarios and work out a solution before it's too late?

CHICKEN(S) by Alexander Tait and Ivan Hamshaw Thomas - Adam and Bailey are chickens. Well, they're dressed as chickens. It's Adam's birthday and they're on a pub crawl. As they fight to tell their own side of their story the audience wonders, what are they really running from? Chicken(s) is a frenetic comedy about youth, stories and memory.

SMALL WORLD by Holly Arsenault - It's now. Zoe, a 20-something American, arrives on a desert island. Finally, she has escaped the crushing world and is totally, completely alone. Except, she's not. Spike is here. Spike, a Scottish children's book author-turned-fisherman, has been here for 26 years. Spike shipwrecked on New Year's Eve, 2000, and believes that the world was decimated by the millennium bug and that is why he has never been rescued. He is thrilled to learn that Zoe's company-a start-up led by a diabolical trio of Eton-educated English brothers that offers clients the opportunity to be stranded on a desert island for fun and enlightenment-will be picking her up at the end of one week.

But, there's a complication. Zoe has with her a button that, if pressed, will permanently sever her contact with the world. Over the course of one week together on the island, Zoe tries to convince Spike that he does not, in fact, want to be saved and returned to the reality of 2026. Her efforts are complicated by the revelation that they share an improbable connection.
