American Odyssey: A musical journey through the ups and downs

About

Join us for the fourth recital of the Festival featuring Victoria Simmonds, mezzo-soprano, and Kelvin Lim at the piano.

Blending classical art song with the intimacy of folk and singer-songwriter traditions, this richly varied programme travels across the vast emotional and musical landscape of America, from the lyrical elegance of Samuel Barber and the open-hearted spaciousness of Aaron Copland to the radiant voice of Florence Price and the poetic storytelling of Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan.

Moving effortlessly between concert hall, jazz club, prairie landscape, and late-night confession, American Odyssey offers an evening of music that is at once deeply personal and unmistakably universal - charting the joys, sorrows, humour, longing, and resilience that shape the human experience.
