About

Our gig night, every other month at The Hairy Dog brings fresh music to Derby's best venue. Gigs run 6pm til 9pm - there's not a lot else to do on a Sunday except eat good dinner, have a nap, pop to a gig, and still get home early cos it's a school night, right?

28 Double are a 4-piece groove-infested hard rock outfit from Derby. Rob Tallant (Guitar), Josh Woodhouse (Drums), Nick Ward (vocals) and Chris ‘Buz’ Burrows (Bass) bring together heavy-driven riffs, intoxicating solos and catchy melodies collectively contributing to guarantee a high-energy, crowd enthralling must see live show. With 3 EPs to their name, 28 Double deliver a fresh modern package of British Hard Rock drawing on influences from bands such as Alter Bridge, Down, Black Stone Cherry and Clutch (to name but a few).

28 Double have been privileged delivering blistering performances for such names as These Wicked Rivers and Power Quest, crowned winners of the 2019 Leicester Metal 2 The Masses being given the chance to perform at Bloodstock Open Air 2019 on the New Blood Stage, opening for Tribute acts such as Hi-On Maiden and Mentallica as well as being part of S.O.P.H.I.E. and Teenage Cancer Trust fundraisers. At the heart of 28 Double is the desire to create grooved-filled music that transcends into an exhilarating live show that will see the punters off their seats and filling the dance floors.

Vanitas are a progressive metal band from the UK. Formed in 2022 the 5-piece burst into the UK metal scene with technical riffs and big orchestral soundscapes coining the term ‘cinematic djent’. Following their debut self-titled EP Vanitas built their momentum with a successful trio of singles in 2023, amassing 19K+ streams and 7K+ listeners on Spotify and over 39K views on their Youtube channel and music videos. In their short time as a band so far, they’ve secured support slots previously with the likes of Monuments, Voyager, Destrage and Galactic Empire and are now hitting the ground running debuting a darker sound with their new release ‘Grey
Morality’ out now.

Kaparilion formed in 2019 by guitarists Dan Green and Joe Wallace with lead vocalist Alex Kirk joining the fold soon after; later drummer Drew Wilford, and finally bassist Ian Gaunt (formely of Tangaroa and Order of Voices) completed the line-up .
Kaparilion's music combines melodic metal with metalcore.
Their inspiration comes from: Lamb of God, Architects, Symphony X, Evergrey and Polyphia. The Band began rehearsing and then recording during covid, releasing the 'Shifting Sands' EP in 2021 as the world began to gig again. The 'Time Will Tell' EP was released in 2022 as the band began to gig further from home and prepare for Bloodstock's Metal to the Masses Competition, in which they reached the Grand Final.
Kaparilion have had multiple songs played on BBC Introducing, vocalist Alex has appeared regularly on BBC Radio Derby, and the band keep in contact with local radio stations such as Radio Northwich and TotalRock Unsigned.
2022 brought: the band's first sold out show at Chesterfield's Metal to the Masses Grand Final, sharing the stage with: Karma's Puppet, Death Divine and Reanimate, as well as a supporting slot for Exist Immortal at Corporation on their self titled EP tour.

All bands are on a door split so they get a fair share of ticket sales - we take our expenses out AFTER bands have had their share. By supporting these gigs you are genuinely directly supporting bands. Of course as standard, unlike bigger venues neither us nor The Hairy Dog take commission from any merch sales.
