About

Hack Green Secret Nuclear Bunker, located near Nantwich in Cheshire, is one of Britain’s most fascinating Cold War sites. Originally constructed during the Second World War as RAF Hack Green, the site served as a decoy airfield, designed to mislead enemy bombers away from nearby industrial and military targets.

In the 1950s, as global tensions escalated during the Cold War, the site was redeveloped in complete secrecy into a Regional Government Headquarters (RGHQ). Hidden beneath the countryside, the bunker was intended to house senior military and government officials in the event of a nuclear attack. Its purpose was to coordinate civil defence, communication, and regional control in the aftermath of a nuclear strike.

The bunker was built to withstand blast pressure, radiation, and fallout, with reinforced concrete walls, air filtration systems, secure communication rooms, dormitories, a BBC broadcasting studio, and operations centres. At its peak, the facility was designed to accommodate around 135 personnel, who would have been sealed inside for weeks following an attack, operating in isolation from the outside world.

Throughout the Cold War, Hack Green remained on constant standby, unknown to the local population and even many who worked nearby. It was finally decommissioned in the early 1990s following the collapse of the Soviet Union, bringing an end to its role in Britain’s nuclear defence strategy.

Today, Hack Green has been preserved as a museum, offering a rare and immersive insight into Cold War Britain. Visitors can explore its original rooms, equipment, and exhibits, experiencing first-hand the tense atmosphere of a world living under the constant threat of nuclear war. The bunker’s claustrophobic corridors and preserved facilities make it one of the most atmospheric Cold War sites in the UK.

We’re looking forward to welcoming our customers as they join us for our paranormal event at Hack Green Secret Nuclear Bunker, where we’ll explore the history, atmosphere, and stories still held deep within this extraordinary Cold War facility.
