Magherabuoy House Hotel is situated on the fabulous North Antrim Coast, just a few miles from the Giant's Causeway and with views over Donegal, the Skerries and the Atlantic Ocean. Set on an elevated site on the southern outskirts of Portrush, the property incorporates a beautifully restored period mansion built in 1860 and has been extended to provide a quality modern hotel with extensive function, meeting and conference facilities. The original Magherabuoy House was built by a Liverpudlian doctor following the design of Sir Charles Lanyon - at that time Ireland's leading architect. Lanyon also designed Queen's University, Crumlin Road Gaol, Portrush town Hall and many other churches and notable public buildings across the north. Magherabuoy was the home of Sir Richard Dawson Bates from 1934-47, Minister for Home Affairs at the old Northern Ireland government at Stormont. Bates was a close ally of Lord Craigavon and a controversial figure in his own right, often using Magherabuoy House to entertain foreign dignatories. The House has recently been renovated, highlighting the period features of this former gentleman's residence and adding 3 stylish meeting private dining rooms to the Hotel. Over £3 million has been spent at the Hotel on renovation and extension since 2006, the result being the transformation of Magherabuoy into one of the North Coast's premier Hotels.
