Who is she:

An iconic 90s hip hop diva whose seminal debut solo album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, remains a true masterpiece.

Where to see her this year:

Playground Festival in Rouken Glen Park, Glasgow, Saturday 3d August.

Why you need to see her at least once in your life:

The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, released all the way back in 1998, is one of the finest albums of its decade. The record sees the post-Fugees Hill assume a role as a social commentator, discussing all manner of subjects including motherhood, reminiscence, love, heartbreak and God.

Its tracks are timeless. You'll probably know 'Doo Wop (that Thing)' and 'Lost Ones', as well as Santana collaboration 'To Zion', while 'Ex Factor' was sampled with immense levels of success last year on Drake's 2018 global smash 'Nice for What?' - only serving to further highlight the longevity of Hill's work and continued relevance.

While her post-Fugees fame saw her excel, Hill had already set the bar seriously high with her former group (which also featured Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel) and sang on some classic r&b numbers such as 'Killing Me Softly', 'Ready Or Not' and 'Fu Gee La'.

These classic tracks, added to her solo work, makes for a setlist absolutely bursting with brilliance.

This summer Lauryn Hill is set to top the bill at Playground Festival, Glasgow. Find Playground tickets below.
