Biography

Tanga Pasi Trio. Exploring musical roots in Zimbabwe

Talking Gigs are excited to bring Tanga Pasi Trio to the Nether Edge Festival stage for an evening of exploring Zimbabwe’s musical roots, hearing sweet vocal harmonies, primarily in TjiKalanga, and Zulu languages and  English, plus the infectious energy of Zimbabwean rhythms.

Tanga Pasi Trio bring a depth of music, history and songs from Zimbabwe reflecting their own musical heroes and collaborators, to personal global journeys that have shaped and influenced their musical experiences by now expressing, and interpreting, traditional music and Zimbawean roots music in contemporary arrangements. Tanga Pasi has also been inspired by Jamaican reggae and their modern compositions reflect this influence. We’ll hear a range of songs in Sinini’s Mother tongue, TjiKalanga; from western Zimbabwe and Eastern Botswana but also some songs in Zulu, Ndebele and English.

Talking Gigs unique format of mixing conversation and music in the first half helps inform the audience for the all music second half. Definitely discovery through music.

Sinini Ngwenya; lead singer, songwriter, guitar;

Kenny Mangena -bass, backing vocals.

Lucky Moyo – percussion, backing and lead vocals
