Amazed by sound on big systems and loving all sorts of dance music from house, left-field disco and rare groove to rave and early drum and bass, Cambridge born George Aretakis became inspired to get involved – got his hands on a pair of 1210s and never looked back.
From the mid 90s to early 2000s, he became a notorious fixture at East London club 333, playing regularly for the superb Tummy Touch parties, Off Centre and East Meets West. He headed up a 5 year residency at Herbal during the early 2000s, co-running and DJing the much celebrated Apple Crumble nights and the midweek Turntable Anarchy extravaganza. More recently, he's performed at various festivals including Lovebox and Wilderness and now that he’s living back in Cambridge, at the free Strawberry Fair festival and local venues including The Junction and ARU Academy.
Current sets consist mainly of deep house, left-field disco and techno, blending old with new, creating vibrant dance floor atmospheres.
As Supertanker, George has recently collaborated with Shadow Child on "GACID" released as part of his "Connected" album and a joint effort with Sweet Left Peg (Tom Findlay of Groove Armada) “On The Rocks” was released on Jools Butterfield's Ragbull imprint back in the mid 2000s. He produced and remixed tracks for the defunct ILI record label under the monikers Hal, Truck Driver and Mr George and recorded for Tummy Touch, working with The Electric Moccasins Of Doom.
