Biography

Starting his career in North London playing on pirate radio station Freak FM alongside DJ EZ and The Heartless Crew, Sam Wire is credited with playing an instrumental part in the formation of the UK grime scene with the release of his seminal track “Believe Me” in 2003. From there he went on to join the now legal station Rinse FM, which at the time was home to the likes of Dizzee Rascal, Wiley as well as the who’s who of dubstep & grime. This marked the start of producing a slew of influential tracks and DJ’ing around the UK with tremendous support from his peers and national radio.

By 2006 he went on to make the crossover into the world of drum&bass by securing a residency at east London’s institution Herbal, for W10 Records; and releasing several tracks with support from Pendulum and DJ Hype amongst many others.

In 2008 he teamed up with Chase & Status to set up and run MTA Records – which was to become home to Number 1 album selling artist Nero and underground taste makers 16bit and Ben Pearce.

It was through Chase & Status that he met Example. At this time Wire produced several tracks for Example’s ‘Won’t go quietly’ 100 000 selling album – with the finale of the album (Won’t Believe The Fools) being crowned Zane Lowe’s ‘Hottest Record in the World.’ During this period of intense production and touring performing as part of Example’s live show, he completed remixes for Kids in Glass Houses, Example, Liquid and Ellie Goulding as well as completing a busy worldwide DJ schedule. His track ‘Tales from the Crypt’ was included on Snoop Dogg’s ‘Throw Your Dubs Up’ mixtape and played extensively by dubstep royalty Skream.

In 2011 Example and Wire performed to festivals and clubs the world over – to cap the year he presented his first multi genre mix CD: ‘The Playlist’ for Ministry of Sound with Example. This became one of Ministry of Sound’s top selling specialist cd’s. Current supporters of DJ Wire's new music include Andy C, Friction, Chase and Status amongst many others.

Sam Wire continues to work with Chase and Status at MTA Records and perform DJ sets with Example around the UK and the world, in locations including Ibiza, Australia, New Zealand, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, South East Asia, Europe and South Africa to name but a few.
