Biography

With a nod to the late 60s psychedelic rock movement, and more recently the 90s Britpop era, common goldfish’s sound boasts a nostalgic familiarity, whilst spinning new threads in contemporary music. The brainchild of Jonty Lovell, a Tottenham-based producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist common goldfish’s vibrant and ear catching melodies laid over a combination of breakbeats and funk-inspired bass lines, create an irresistible groove that stirs a sense of optimism.

As well as multiple gigs on the London circuit, including the Water Rats and the Sebright Arms, the artist has been drumming up excitement through his “public announcements”, a series of public gigs set in iconic locations across London, including a gig in a DIY skatepark in Tottenham and a set on top of a boat floating down the Regent’s canal.

His first three releases in 2022 received critical acclaim from the likes of Clash, Clout, LDN Magazine & This Song is Sick, with Feel the Fuzz being nominated for best debut of the year (Joy of Violent Movement).

Building on this momentum, his most recent single Low Lights and Throwback Tunes garnered early support from BBC Radio 6’s Steve Lamacq and BBC Music Introducing London’s Jess Izzat. With his first EP on the horizon, he's been tipped as one to watch for 2023.
