The Henry Girls
The music was great - a really honest group - no frills - great humour and beautiful effortless, harmonies - vocals probably better than instruments but the harp was excellent - good mix of styles - uplifting.
the venue was a little small for the event - getting to and from bar felt like being in a rugby scrum! Quite a few family members of the group livened things up and generally really good atmosphere -
supporting acts were good and really nice to see so many young people contributing and really good instrumentalists too

Oh what a night! This was something special indeed. This was not the usual type of venue they play in this made it even more of a spectacular. It was a feast of musical delights. Great new songs like Mrs Avery (Swill introduced it as a sequel to the Dr Hook song Sylvia Mother), the truly heart-wrenching Heartbreak Park and the title track to their new album Devil On The Wind peppered their set alongside classic TMTCH tracks like Iron Masters, Greenfields Of France and the Colours. Although Swill had a bit of a nasty cold and his voice was suffering he still sounded amazing with him and Cush taking it in turns to front the songs. There's no doubt about it, this is the best live band in Britain!

ajenkinson's Review of The Men they Couldnt Hang 25th Anniversary Shindig at M19 Bar
Up close and personal is right but it was a SPECIAL night. What an amazing show. Shame about Swill's voice but think the crowd compensated. Cush was truely awesome. Paul looked terrified and almost seemed to forget he was supposed to sing on his solo bit. Cable Street, The Colours, Green Fields of France, Smugglers were my favourites. My daughter bought the new CD (I had already ordered and paid for my copy so have to wait) and it is everything you would expect from TMTCH. Not sure which is my favourite - lots more listening and I may decide.
Loved The Clay Faces too. Great CD and would love to see one of their full sets.

Ah The Men were on form last night.
Fab gig with a lot of old classics and a few of the new ones.
Good to see you out there enjoying yourselves !!!
Come back to Manchester again soon - one of the best live bands of the past 25 years in my opinion :-)

neilrs's Review of The Men they Couldnt Hang 25th Anniversary Shindig at M19 Bar
Hang em? we should be knighting them more like!
For those who didn't make it what a night you missed from Paul singing solo in the middle to an invasion of a fan on the vocals with Johnny Cush who was brilliant on a Johnny Cash cover
TMTCH were up close and personal, brilliant playing highlights being the new songs "Devil on the wind" and "Mrs Avery" and "The Colours"/Ironmasters the best band you'll ever see live even Swill was losing his voice
Don't miss them next time

Men they couldn't hang review at m19 bar
It was standing room only at the exclusive 25th anniversary acoustic gig by the legendary 'Men They Couldn't Hang'. m19 bar's first floor acoustic room in Levenshulme village was packed to the rafters on Monday 18 May when the alternative Celtic rock band and their legions of fans descended on the venue. Tickets for the 'secret' event in Manchester had sold out, but that didn't stop their fans turning up to see if they could squeeze in.
The venue was rocking from the first bar to the last sweat induced encore, with fans almost touching their heroes in the venue, it was certainly a night to remember. Almost like a party in your own living room, it was quite a fitting way to celebrate their 25th anniversary.
Still famous for their 'Green Fields of France' track which holds the record for being the longest running number one in the independent charts, the band are more used to playing stadiums than intimate venues like m19. Currently on tour with the 'Wonderstuff' and with a summer of festivals lined up including 'Glastonbury' it was certainly a coupe by the venue to get them to play a gig. Many of their fans could not believe they could be so close to their heroes and enjoyed every minute of the experience.

I cannot believe M19 'advertised' this as a Johnny Cash special or tribute. It was NOT a tribute in fact all the artistes that played did one, maybe two songs at the most of Johnny Cash's and they were not in the same vein as the original.
It was in fact a forum for new talent to showcase their new material and sell CD's in the M19 bar. I'm not against showcasing new artistes and some of the acts were alright but it was not why I chose to spend my Friday night in the M19 bar and part with £3. Please do not try and fool members of the public with this false advertising again!
Very, very disppointed - shame on you M19 management
