Jumbo Acoustic Jam
Overall rating: 4.5

Am I biased, because I actually run this event? No- I'm honest enough to tell you that, so you can make up your own mind.

The last Sunday of the month (2-5pm) is 'Jumbo Acoustic Jam'- a chance for anybody to sing and play- unamplified. Usually about a dozen turn up to perform, and some come specially to listen, as well as club members who are around too. The atmosphere is always good- everybody feels the music, and the enjoyment of all the different players finding a way to play together. First-timers are often surprised at how varied, and how good, the music is. Of course, the regulars keep coming back.

The Carlton Club is a friendly, unpretentious, community-based members-club. It could do with a bit of redecorating, but there is not much spare cash for this just now. The cheap bar is very good value,

This is also a good venue for all the other gigs, club nights, and parties. Why not check it out?

jumbo acoustic jam 1st birthday party
Overall rating: 4.5

A brilliant party, excellent atmosphere, and really entertaining. A great mixture of different acoustic music styles from 14 players- a superb Special Guest spot by Harp And A Monkey- and the afternoon ended with DJ Coops from 'The Dogs Balearics' spinning mellow tunes, while the crowd chatted, finished off the delicious free birthday cake, and carried on enjoying the cheap bar! And all this for free entry...

davetaylor's Review of Jumbo Acoustic Jam at Carlton Club
Overall rating: 4.5

Will you trust me if I admit I am the organiser!? Well let me stick to facts- 12 people just rolled up, and sang and played music together. 5 of them were new, and I had never even met them before.

We took it in turns to lead/ choose/ sing a song- with all playing along- today we had country, folk, jazz, gospel, blues, skiffle, pop etc, and original songs Richard wrote himself. The audience loved it, and we carried on playing after because nobody wanted to stop!

Tea only 30p, cheap bar, family-friendly, snooker, free car park. Next- 26 April, 2-5pm, plus free soup!
