Lord Finesse-Return of The FunkyMan!

Overall rating: 5

It's been a while since I saw LordFinesse, maybe 2005 at Dingwalls in Camden?. We arrived early and thought that others would have a similar idea too ..but didn't. We were able to relax in the bar until the doors opened at 8pm when we saw the opening artists. Don't get me wrong, I love the warm up slot as it gives the evening a more memorable angle as you get to see other artists who you wouldn't see but these weren't up to scratch-especially with the headline act with the gravitas as LordFinesse.
Minutes seemed like hours and hours like years as we waited for the Funkyman to arrive on stage. When he did arrive on stage, the crowd let him know that he had arrived!. As humble as he is, he can still command a crowd with single words. His voice echoing around for all to hear sounding exactly the same as on vinyl from over 20years. He is a true performer and kept everyone happy right up to the end, blazing through tracks from: KeepEmEagerToListen, FunkyTechnician, BadMutha, SlaveToMySoundwave, PartyOverHere, ReturnOfTheFunkyman, YouKnowWhatI'mAbout, ActualFacts, Brainstorm, DignifiedSoldiers, HereICome(Remix). Oh, and did I mention that he had DjBoogieBlind backing him up on the decks? Now he has his own rep from his association with the X-ecutioners. That didn't phase Finesse as he took to the decks too with cutting up banter with DjBoogie ending with the crowds roars of approval.
Lord Finesse is indeed a Don as proved on the night with an eager crowd, showing not only his beats sounding nice loud but his vocals still cutting into the November air heating it up ..and then blazing a cherry ontop by DJing too! What a night-thanks Cargo,

Bad Ass tunes and great atmosphere

Overall rating: 4

Swollen last week was awesome, great build up by Stig'N' Syntax. When swollen got on the crowd was buzzing and the tunes were flowing. A good mixture of old and new stuff. Venue was quite small but this just made it more personal. Drinks were a bit on the pricy side but you should expect this from a London pub/club.

Bouncers wouldnt let you wear a hat which was ridiculous but on the whole if your a hip hop fan be sure not to miss their next gig. Great job swollen 9/10.
