Got the tent up and down in the dry which was a bonus and the campsite generaly was good. The acts themselves: Really enjoyed Slowburner who kicked off the show with Jackie Savage doing an excellant job on bass at short notice. Wishbone Ash were one of the reasons I went to the event and played a good set, plenty of nostalgia there. The Mannfreds - for me this just didn't work; I have seen Paul Jones with the Blues Band but this swapping with Mick D'Abo on lead vocals coupled with numerous technical fault plus heavy rain mean't it waas a disappointing end to the first day. Ben Poole kicked off the Saturday and wow can that guy play !! Got a great piece of video of him standing right in front of me for his finale- great showmanship. Erja Lyytinen played a good set and had strong vocals and good guitar technique. Viva Santana played a good set and got the crowd up and moving. Matthew Lee- sorry but this didn't appeal to me too much but, again, got a lot of the crowd moving. Bernie Marsden - another reason I went and he didn't disappoint with some great playing and witty banter- good support by Jim Kirkpatrick who is another rising guitarist. Another signed C D Oysterband- I could accept they had a folk background and the set started well with some easy songs to sing along to but the left wing ranting just got too much and I left before the end of the set. Sunday's line up kicked off with the excellant Bare Bones Boogie Band and I thought the lead singer was very much in the Stevie Nicks mould Aynsley Lister- has been sitting on my Amazon Recommendations for several months and, for me, was the highlight act of the weekend - really moved by his version of Purple Rain and immediately bought "The Tower Sessions" album when I got home. The Hamsters- sadly I've never been a great fan although they went down very well with the crowd on the day and well done to the drummer who stepped in at short notice. Walter Trout - what a great act to finish the show with and my friend Tim thought him the highlight of the weekend and a nice touch when he and the bass player joined the crowd to watch the drum solo. Overall a great weekend and I would definately go again. Food prices were a bit dear and the pub opening times seemed a bit daft for the weekend and there is nothing to do in Linton itself. | ||||||||||||||

Same for the choice of beers, although this year we felt none really stood out. Only real complaint was the really dire breakfast served up in the campsite field. Ultra low grade ingredients and expensive, although if proceeds are going to charity this can be overlooked. The really cheap horrible sausages can't be! Last minor whinge - please not so far to walk from the campsite to the festival. | ||||||||||||||

Walter Trout, Bernie Marsden were great. Enjoyed The Oysterband,although different for the festival, I love this music and it rounded off the day well (despite the sound issues & having to wait)never seen so many people dancing whilst falling off hay bales before! Food and drink very good, next year ( yes note I say Next year!)I shall be sampling more of the real ales! | ||||||||||||||

You have a compare so why when the next band is going to be late do you not anounce this fact to the audience. whydoIneedtor egister Offline Points:52 Posts: 2 | Linton Festival - Overall rating: Stayed through the rain all weekend, the highlight was definately Bernie Marsden for me, playing a very crisp and tight set. fantastic guitar work, great to hear some fantastically played Rory Gallagher, Bernie came out into the crowd on both Friday & Saturday to chat & sign cd's etc.. top man. Good to see some young bands that came over really well, we really enjoyed Ben Poole Band & Aynsley Lister as well as Bare Bones Boogie Band. Whilst there were sound issues you can;t help but expect some in all that rain and reasonably quick change overs, especially with some of the equipment having to bring on & off stage, especially for viva Santana & the Hamsters, all bands did themselves proud, really enjoyable mix - no duds at all. The Manfreds whilst not my bag, were okay. Keep it up Linton. | ||||||||||||||

Got stuck in traffic on the M6,M5 and M50 which was down to one lane for most of the way. We got to the Farmers Boy Inn at 6.50,checked in and asked them to book us a taxi.We rushed in got changed and got back in the bar just as the taxi arrived. The driver was great but informed us he couldn't pick us up later as he was fully booked up for the night - but he gave us a couple of other reliable firms numbers.He then took us the the Alma Arms in Linton - the site of the gig - 5 miles away !!!! . What a place. Basically a little village in the middle of nowhere. The gig was at the back of the pub - it was a great little venue. Behiind the pub the land sloped down to form a natural amphitheatre with the stage at the bottom of the slope. Bales of hay were laid out for people to sit on and there were covered awnings all the way around for the less brave to shelter under. We had a quick chat with Mick - the sound guy before we got a drink and a roast Pork sarnie - verrrrrry nice. Loads of real ales to choose from as well. Anyway......... Set list King Will Come Blind Eye Lady Jay Rock n Roll Widow Ballad Of The Beacon FUBB Way Of The World Warrior Throw Down The Sword Blowin' Free Encore - Jailbait. It rained all the way through the set.Jackie and I stood stage left nearish to the front ,Jackie under the big brolley - wimp!!. However the rain failed to dampen spirits really and by the end there seemed to be a poachers covention in cowboy hats "boogieing" down the front. They played and sang brilliantly.Congats to Danny - the slow intro to RNRW was excellent mate. Also the end of TDTS was changed. No dual solo but a 3 part solo Danny, Ray, Danny. An excellent set. Also thanx to Danny for coming out front to see us just before the Manfreds to say thanx for coming and introducing us to Emma and the incredibly cute Austin 2 & 3/4. We really appreciated that and I hope the drive back wasn't too arduous mate. If Halifax tonite is half as good then it will still be worth it. The Manfreds Start was ropey - Ha Ha Said The Clown sounded dreadful at first but they sorted it out and they played a great set of timeless classics.All the singles, several B sides and a couple of McGuiness Flint classics as well. However it absolutely chucked it down all the way through their set,so much so that we were both boogieing under the brolley. They were great and we really enjoyed it. Anyway the taxi we booked turned up at 12.30 and we got back OK - thank god as we could not have walked back. I'd definately go again - will have to see who's on next year. | ||||||||||||||

petelud2006 Offline Points:18 Posts: 1 | Linton Festval Friday 17 June 2011 Overall rating: The rain was fairly heavy at times, but still did not detract from the enjoyment.The highlight of the evening was The Manfreds, with Paul Jones and Mike d'Abo doing a double act of singing alternate songs from all the bands major hits repertoire. The sound was tight and had everybody singing, clapping and generally enjoying themselves. A few people managed to dance in the mud.Car parking was better this year, we didn't have to walk as far as last year. The choice of ales was fantastic and the price £3.00 a pint was excellent. The food, especially the hog roast was again excellent and reasonably priced at a large pork, stuffing and apple sauce bun for £3.50. The chips at £2.00 a cone were a bit dear for a small cone, I think £1.00 or £1.50 a cone would be more acceptable. The toilets were generally clean. It might be better to site the handwashing facility nearer to the toilets entrances as we saw many people coming out of the toilets without washing their hands. Perhaps signs near to the toilet exits or in the stalls might be an idea. All in all it was a great afternoon and evening. | ||||||||||||||

Amazing performance considering the bass guitarist was trapped on the M50 so Jacky Savage stepped up at 2 minutes notice. The fantastic Wishbone Ash took us down memory lane and treated us to many delightful pieces in their set. The mood was bouyant (it had started to rain) but the Manfreds overcame the technical problems to finish off a spectacular night with Mike d"Abo Paul Jones and Tom McGuinness bombarding us with rgreat renditions of their hits from the 60's. The crowd let wet but extremely happy. | ||||||||||||||

The Music was brilliant I especially enjoyed Ian Siegal, The Hoax, Big Blind, Hokie Hoint, Nico Pacton etc. TYA, Peter Green and Friends, (Albatros brought a tear to my eyes thanks for that!) A Massive thank you to Mike Sanchez whose solo set (because of Water Melon Slims problem getting into Britain) was absolutely fantastic then with the Seat-Sniffers just kept on delivering....Superb! Did anyone else think their Drummer was a bit of a comic.....Brilliant Drummer aswell! Rory Ellis, Northsyde, Eugene, The Stumble Superb as was Ruby Turner although not really my cup of tea, what a voice though! I loved the Hog Roast, Burgers Etc. and the REAL ALES wonderful thanks! Didn't have anything other than a cup of tea from the Indian cuisine because I thought they were too pricey for the portion, smelt awesome though! Great idea having Breakfast on tap so to speak at the Camp-site.....THANKS! | ||||||||||||||

I know he's not the man he once was but it was still wonderful to see him and he deserves the maximum of respect from all blues fans. Very impressed with Northsyde's blend of blues, soul and funk with some awesome guitar playing. Mike Sanchez and the Seatsniffers were amazing - so much energy on such a warm day! Ruby Turner and her band were awesome to. Very enjoyable selection of ales went down very well. Food was good too. Excellent facilities. A great festival indeed! I'll be back next year. | ||||||||||||||

What I found was a very well run, very friendly small festival with excellent bands and excellent beer to match. For me the band highlights were Ian Siegal Band, The Hoax, Nico Backton, Eugene Hideaway Bridges, The Stumble, Peter Green, and The Seatsniffers Feat. Mike Sanchez. One band low point for me was Ten Years After who I thought were so arrogant and self absorbed that it just killed the mood (did anyone else nearly drop off in the middle of that drum solo?). The venue itself was well laid out and I thought the use of hay bales as seating was very clever. It was nice to have the choice to either chill out or get up and dance depending on our mood. The food was reasonably priced and I enjoyed an excellent selection of real ales over the weekend. The camping facilities were good and it was nice that you could buy breakfast at the camp site if you wanted it. Two minor issues that I think could be addressed for next time. The direction signs for camping and parking were abit confusing and not completely clear. Also it needed to be made clearer that cars were allowed in the campsite if you were camping. We parked in one of the other car parks and walked to the campsite only to be told that we hadn't needed to! However these are small issues as compared to how good the festival was, a big thank you to all who organised and ran it. Roll on Linton 2011 I will definitely be coming back! | ||||||||||||||

Biggest, well only real gripe was the Indian catering van. I thought the prices were too high. Where as the Whole Hog ware priced just right. High music notes Big Blind, TYA, EHB. Low music note Ian Segal, I got bored! Camping high points, the breakfast in the camping field Delicious. The bloke folding up his pop up tent and finally the bloke who thought someone had stolen his car and tent. he found them, where he left them I think he had consumed a beer or two. Roll on next year. Peter Green brought tears to my eyes, it was so lovely to see the flashes of his old genius and it was truly glorious when he did Albatross etc. The guys he has playing with him were perfect for the gig. I'm glad I saw him and I'll remember it for a very long time. Sanchez was as brilliant as ever and the Seatsniffers were awsome too! Despite the weather, which fortunately cleared up just in time, everything about it was great. The bands were well chosen to be on the same bill; for my personal preference I would put the Ian Seigal Band third, the young Dutch lads a good second, and The Hoax......well, I forget how many thimes I've seen them but they never disappoint. A belter from them, as always. The food stalls and beers were truly excellent, plus good, plentiful toilets. If the lineup next year is as good I shall return. £60 for a complete 3-day weekend these days cannot be anything other than top value. Well done to everyone concerned, and thanks once again! | ||||||||||||||
