Retaining its title year after year as the only rock festival worth mentioning, Download Festival continues to hit all the right notes for true fans of rock music. Three days of heavy rock over five stages are what await the faithful who make the journey to the iconic location every year.
Previous headliners have included the likes of Metallica, Iron Maiden, Rammstein, HIM, Black Sabbath, System of a Down, Tool, and Guns N&rsquo; Roses to name a few.
With each year&rsquo;s improvement on the last, and the organizers staying true to the Donnington &lsquo;Monsters of Rock&rsquo; ethos, rock music certainly has a spiritual home in the shape of Download Festival.
The bars stay open after the entertainment has finished, and running until 3am (Friday to Sunday) there's District X (or, as veterans know it, The Village).&nbsp;
With a merch megastore, Fat Frank's camping shop and a regularly-stocked Co-op on site, you can rock 'til you drop.

The organisers made quite a few changes this year and, to be honest, not all of them worked! We didn't camp so I can't comment on the camping but friends of friends who did camp said it was dreadful, some even going home the day before the festival started. The arena itself wasn't too bad considering all of the rain the week leading up to the festival. Plenty of straw had been laid on the worse areas meaning it was mostly clay-like thick mud rather than the river of ankle-deep mud it was in 2016, for example. The bands were great, so many stand-out performances. Buying drinks from the bar, or merch, on the other hand was a complete nightmare. There were always massive queues for both. I had to get a t-shirt for my nephew, who couldn't make it because of work, and it took over an hour and a quarter, we missed one of the bands we wanted to see because of it. Simply not good enough. The other problem, as always, was the car park, especially on the last night. Whilst when you arrive there are plenty of stewards pointing you towards your parking space, after the festival ends there is no one and it become a free-for-all, meaning it is everyone for themselves and it takes far, far, longer to get out of the carpark as a result. Friends of mine left an hour before Tool ended their set and it took them over 90 minutes to get out of the South Car park. Given the rip-off parking fee, why should that be considered as "acceptable"? But then they have your money so they don't care. Fortunately we ignored the stewards when we arrived and found a parking space not too far from the car park exit and were out in 20 minutes. We saw all of Tool's set and were out of the car park before our friends!

My first time at Download and despite the rain and the mud it was a brilliant experience watching two of my favourite bands, Whitesnake and Def Leppard. The atmosphere was really friendly; just people having a good time and loads of things to entertain: food, stalls, scary fairground attractions, people in fancy dress, or just men in dresses. It all ran to time near enough too. I only have a few minor criticisms; firstly the road directions were unclear to the South car park where everyone except campers would be headed and secondly £20 to park in a muddy field! A bit steep- the price not the field. Also, the footbridge over the road was a bottle neck for people returning to their cars. Lastly, for such a large gathering of people the security seemed to be quite minimal. I could have had anything in my pockets and walked through unchallenged. Minor issues but if the right bands were on I would definitely go back.

it was good but very bad organisation! long queues, high prices, no bins, and everything had to be paid in cash. not the greatest one I've gone to unfortunately

excellent event, 100% recommend. downsides, need more shaded areas in main arena and more toilets in campsites

First festival at download will def be going back next year loved it
