For a more traditional Christmas, the town centres come alive with Christmas Markets, chestnuts roasting on an open fire, sweet smells mixing with savoury tastes. Christmas shopping is accompnied by festive light displays, shop displays are advertising a grand sale to come, and there is a mad rush to get a last minute present for the one you love.
More recently we have seen the introduction of town centre ice rinks and out of town snow centres all doing there bit to add to the unique bustling atmosphere that appears at Christmas. University Towns such as Manchester see all the students finish their studies, which results in longer parties before they head off home for mums home cooking, and no doubt dads wallet as well!
