So, as you might have noticed, with Independent Venue Week on the horizon, we’ve taken some time to appreciate some of the best independent venues in the UK. And this time, it’s The Black Prince in Northampton’s turn under the spotlight.

The Black Prince is a music venue, pub, and beer garden in the heart of Northampton. Steeped in history, the venue has been a pub since 1897 and has proven to be vital in supporting local scenes by hosting live performances since the 1960s.

Bands including Enter Shikari, Feeder, Reef, Working Men’s Club, ROAM, slowthai, You Me At Six, and Look Mum No Computer have performed there over the years, gaining a following in the area that no doubt played a role in their later success.

Even during the uncertainty of the COVID pandemic, The Black Princess still held events, with socially distanced outdoor gigs, showing their support to local artists. Who, as we all know, struggled due to the ongoing uncertainty.

Formerly known as The Racehorse, the live music room has an intimate capacity of just 250, allowing punters to get up close and personal with emerging artists from various scenes. If, when the sun finally comes out again, you fancy a fresh, reasonably priced pint in the beer garden, know it’ll be bustling with a capacity of 400.

Just over a five-minute walk from Northampton’s town centre and 20 minutes from Northampton train station, The Black Prince on Abington Square is easy to get to. So if you see any events going on at The Black Prince that tickle your fancy, you should definitely grab yourself a ticket for The Black Prince and support this important venue, and the artists that perform there.
