Essential Listening: The best new music releases in March/April 2024

The best new music releases in March 2024.

Date published: 3rd Apr 2024

Yeehaw! There have been some brilliant new music releases in March 2024 but everyone and their nan has been talking about, and jamming to, Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter. Have you given it a listen yet?

But if country isn’t quite your scene - even though it’s a Beyoncé album, not a country album - that’s okay and we’ve got four playlists here covering the best new music from the past month in DnB and jungle, house and techno, indie and alternative, and hip-hop and jazz.

This week, you’ll find new tracks from Turno & Dreps, Ewan McVicar, gglum, Anaïs x Scrufizzer, IDK and Joey Bada$$, The Wrldfms Tony Williams with EARTHGANG and BJ The Chicago Kid, Courting, DIIV, Elbow, Camo & Krooked, Hiatus Kaiyote, t e s t p r e s s, The Shapeshifters, and more.

Essential Listening: House and Techno

Gasoline - Eli Brown & Lilly Palmer

Known for leaning towards darker soundscapes, it only made sense that Bristol's Eli Brown linked up with German techno queen Lilly Palmer for a new track that’ll likely take the techno world by storm.

Coloured with acidic synths, disorienting chopped-up vocal samples, and driving kicks, the track feels like the sonic equivalent of when the strobes go mad in a rave and you don’t know which way’s up and which is down. Gorgeous chaos.

What's That You Say - Fat White Family

If you enjoyed The Last Shadow Puppets’ 2016 album Everything You've Come To Expect, we reckon you might like this new track from Fat White Family.

Taken from their forthcoming album Forgiveness Is Yours, ‘What’s That You Say’ combines a number of slightly trippy sounds to create a dizzying kaleidoscopic soundscape with a far-from-comforting lead vocal snarling over it. The album, which is due for release, in April this year, will be the band’s fourth.

Returning after a few years of quiet, we sure fans will be delighted to hear what has been dubbed the band's "most sophisticated, vital and flamboyant creation of their career"

Out & About - Amplify & P Money

Coming in with a killer weekend anthem, jump up’s hottest new name Ampy has linked up with the beast himself P Money, resulting in a seriously hard-hitting track that also happens to be one of the most English DnB tracks we’ve heard.

"Tell my boss I'm gonna be late / I cannot miss this rave / I don't care if it's Tuesday, mate”, he spits over that chunky instrumental before the drop comes and gives you whiplash.

Essential Listening: Hip-Hop and Jazz

Can U Dig That? - DJ Premier x Snoop Dogg

One of hip-hop’s greatest producers has linked up with one of the genre’s best-loved MCs on a lazy, laidback California-loving track.

Having worked together before with Preemo producing tracks on Snoop's 2002 album Paid tha Cost to Be da Boss and with Snoop hopping on Gang Starr's (duo of DJ Prem and Guru) 'In This Life', the two already have an established rapport which effortlessly shines through on this new track.

Embellished with scratching, layered vocals and adlibs, and heavily sampling Average White Band’s ‘Overture’, the two have gifted us a banger that encompasses everything we love about that classic hip-hop sound.
