Adam Sheridan chats to Skiddle ahead of the Cream Ibiza Reunion

It's been another record breaking summer on the White Isle for Cream Ibiza.

After 17 years on the island Cream Ibiza certainly know their stuff, and this year saw a typically high quality programme of global superstars taking to the Amnesia decks every Thursday for what was surely one of the highlights of Ibiza 2011.

For those that experienced some of the Cream Ibiza magic this year - or for those that couldn't make it to the White Isle - The Cream Ibiza Reunion returns to Leeds on October 22nd for a very special party featuring some of the most popular headline DJs and residents from Cream Ibiza's 2011 season.

Ahead of the reunion, we caught up with Leeds' own Adam Sheridan to chat about Ibiza, his Timezone series, and a decade of DJing. 

How's your summer been and what have you been up to? 

Summer has been amazing thanks. I've been living in Ibiza since May. I returned for my seventh year as resident for Cream @ Amnesia. It's been immense there this summer, one of the best seasons I've seen out there in a long time. I also had the pleasure of making a guest appearance at the legendary Carl Cox party at Space for the second year running which was incredible! I went on tour of Asia and India which was fantastic and made a return back to Creamfields UK which was again fantastic. All in all, a great summer. 

It's the Cream Ibiza Reunion on 22nd October, what can be expected? 

Whenever Cream come to Leeds it's always a great success. I'll be on from 1.30am in the annexe playing all the big tracks from my sets in Ibiza this summer and some of those legendary Cream classics.  

You have been an Ibiza Resident for 7 years now. What brings you back to the island year after year? 

For four months of the year Ibiza is the EDM capital of the world. Everyone visits here at some point throughout the season so it's a great place to come from a business point of view. It's also one of the most beautiful places on the planet, with an amazing vibe that just sucks you back in year after year!  

How did your relationship with Cream begin? 

I was booked for a guest slot for Cream @Amnesia 8 years ago in Ibiza. It turned out that I had to follow Tiesto and close the main room. I smashed it, the set went really well and the relationship started from then. I was given a residency the year after in Ibiza and since have been all round the world on Cream tours. It's a great brand to be involved with and I have big respect for all the people involved! 

There have been many DJs that you have appeared with and that have a long history with Cream. Are there any new talents that you think will be making a big name for themselves? 

I think James Dutton is definitely one to watch and Sean Hughes is a great talent worth keeping an eye on. Also, my good friend the Funktoid is on fire at the moment from a producing point of view. 

You have played alongside many DJs and at many events/closing parties. Is there one in particular that stands out? 

The last ever Berlin Love Parade back in 04. I came on after PVD. It was amazing and will stay with me forever!  

How do you think digital music has progressed since you first started? 

I think digital music is great, it's nice to be able to access so much music at the click of a button over the internet. It does make it very difficult however for good music to get recognised as there is so much music been pumped out on a daily basis. In the past labels had to front a lot of money to get the tracks out there so the quality control of EDM that was released was of a lot higher standard.  

You first took to the stage in Manchester 10 year ago. Do you remember how you felt? 

Like it was yesterday. I think for the first time in my life I connected and found something that I loved and enjoyed. I only played for an hour and it felt like fiveminutes. As soon as I finished the guys offered me a residency. 

What do you think it is about Manchester that artists love so much? 

Everyone enjoys a good old northern knees up. There is a lot of history and evolution come out of the city of Manchester as far as EDM goes and still now to this day the scene is booming over there! I always feel at home whenever I play over in Manchester, amazing city, great atmosphere. 

When and why did you decide to create your own label? 

I created Audio Junkie with my long time friend and studio partner Joe. We wanted to create a platform for our music and other up and coming artists that we knew. I don't just release my  music on Audio Junkie I work with other labels as well. Audio Junkie is very experimental. Lots of cool new tracks coming out on there. So watch this space. 

What was the idea behind the Timezone series? 

I wanted to create a concept that was slightly different. I didn't want to vanish into the studio for a year and then just come back with a 12 track album. Timezone was released as a series so it allowed me to have a constant flow of music released as well as the whole package at the end of the series. Timezone the name and the name of the tracks GMT  was an idea me and a friend came up with. I'd been travelling around to all different parts of the world for the past 10 years so I decided to pick some of the favourite places and experiences and write a track for each one. Each place had its own GMT timezone which give each track their own name. For example Ibiza GMT +1. 

You have been incredibly successful in everything you have turned your hand to. What do you feel has been your greatest achievement and is there anything else you would like to try? 

Thank you! I feel like I have achieved a lot and an very happy with where I have been  but I feel like I can achieve so much more. Some of my favourite memories would be hitting the Dutch Dance top 10 back on 2001, playing at the Berlin Love Parade, playing alongside Carl Cox. So many great memories. Too many to name. Met so many amazing characters too. 

What's next for Adam Sheridan? 

I'm going to be spending a lot of time in the studio over the next few months. I'm going to be concentrating mainly on the techno. I'm working on my follow up EP for Intec digital. The big room music will be released under a different artist name from now on. I've just also appeared in a film which is due out in 2012. The film is called Ibiza My way or the high way. I'm also musical director on that so keep an eye out.
