Ultra Con returns to Doncaster Racecourse this Saturday with celebrity guests, iconic movie vehicles, immersive sets, cosplay and more.

After 9 years away, Ultra Con finally makes its triumphant return to Doncaster Racecourse this Saturday, bringing one of the country's best-loved celebrations of Sci-Fi and Fantasy film, television, gaming, cosplay and pop culture back to South Yorkshire.

The convention promises celebrity guests, large-scale interactive sets, collectables, cosplay and what organisers bill as the UK’s largest gathering of TV and movie vehicles, alongside Ultra Con Live, its high-energy stage show packed with heroes, villains, lightsabres and plenty of theatrical chaos.

So, if your idea of a perfect Saturday involves climbing aboard the DeLorean, getting up close to Optimus Prime, wandering through blockbuster movie sets or meeting the faces from Star Wars, Doctor Who, Harry Potter, and more, there’s enough packed into this one to keep even the most dedicated of fans busy.

Once inside, Ultra Con wastes no time throwing you into the worlds it celebrates, with familiar faces, screen-famous vehicles and immersive sets waiting around almost every corner.

This year’s guest list is stacked. Leading the way is Jimmy Vee, aka the man inside R2-D2 himself, alongside Spencer Wilding, who played Darth Vader in Rogue One and has also appeared in Doctor Who, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones and Guardians of the Galaxy. Josh Herdman, best known as Gregory Goyle in the Harry Potter films, also joins the bill, while Paul Kasey brings a long list of masked roles from Star Wars and Doctor Who. Marc Silk, Louis Cordice, James Davies and Femi Taylor round out the lineup.

Then there are the wheels. Ultra Con has assembled a pretty ridiculous collection of screen icons under one roof, with the DeLorean Time Machine, Jurassic Park Jeep, A-Team Van, Mad Max Interceptor, Herbie, Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, The Fall Guy Truck and an Indiana Jones military bike and sidecar all heading to Doncaster.

This isn’t a convention where everything stays behind a rope, either. Its immersive movie sets and props are designed to be walked through and explored, with large-scale sci-fi builds and familiar cinematic worlds putting fans firmly inside the action. Past editions have featured the Millennium Falcon cockpit, Mos Eisley Cantina, TARDIS and more.

Ultra Con Live, however, is where things really go up a gear. The high-energy, large-scale production brings together dedicated performers and some of the UK’s best cosplayers, turning beloved characters into a full theatrical spectacle. And the cosplay doesn’t stop there, with competitions, prizes and a parade giving fans the chance to get involved themselves.

And when you’ve finished saving galaxies, escaping dinosaurs and inspecting the Batcave-worthy collection of vehicles, the Vendor Arena is there to test whatever remains of your bank balance, packed with comics, toys, memorabilia, limited prints, crafts and independent sellers.
