Ministry of Sound celebrate re-opening with Pete Tong & Kolsh set

Following a new sound system being fitted for Ministry of Sound’s 35th anniversary, the venue’s re-opening weekend featured sets from Pete Tong & Kolsh.

Ministry of Sound has re-opened with a set from Pete Tong and Kolsh christening the Box. 

The venue recently underwent a major transformation ahead of its 35th anniversary year, which included its long-standing Martin Audio system being replaced by a new, custom four-point KV2 sound system courtesy of Patchwork London, and increasing its capacity by approximately 200 people. The Box, Ministry of Sound’s main room, was also fitted with a giant, industrial metal installation from Lucid Creates, whose resume includes installations for Pacha Ibiza, Glastonbury and Boomtown. 

The Box’s reopening weekend kicked off on Friday 30th January with a showcase from &friends, Moeaike, and Joezi. Pete Tong and Kolsh followed up with a floor-shuddering B2B set on Saturday 31st January, and were joined by Lauren Lo Sung and Jansons. Ministry of Sound’s subsequent 35th anniversary year programming includes a Hard Times Records takeover featuring Ron Trent, Joe Claussell, and Tony Humphries; a La Discothèque with Todd Terje, Fat Tony, and Mouse T; and the return of Smoove and early 2000s garage pioneers Heartless Crew. 

Beginning life in 1991 as a former bus depot in then-undeveloped Elephant & Castle, Ministry of Sound’s sound system was influential in bringing house to the UK with bookings like David Morales and Larry Levan, and continues to play a role in cultivating club culture through both the venue and its famed record label.
