Jack White takes first visual art exhibition to London

Former White Stripes frontman’s exhibition will feature interactive works, installations, and furniture design products.

Date published: 9th Mar 2026

Jack White’s first visual arts exhibition will open in London in May this year.

The former White Stripes frontman and solo artist from Detroit brings his exhibition ‘These Thoughts May Disappear’ to Damien Hirst’s Newport Street Gallery. It will run from 29th May to 13th September 2026.

Arranged in association with HENI, the exhibition highlights will include sculptures made with found objects, including interactive works, installations, and furniture design products.

The exhibition will include a remake of Jack White’s 2015 sculpture 'The Red Tree', preserving the original concept of transforming a decaying tree into a striking work.

White describes his work as “hardware store art”, a synthesis of carpentry, upholstery, assemblage and reappropriation using materials ranging from resins, paints and epoxies to utilitarian materials and found objects.

White's works take inspiration from mid-century modern design and local Detroit Cass Corridor artists such as Gordon Newton and Robert Sestok, as well as White's own background in upholstery.

Before finding success with The White Stripes, White was an upholstery apprentice in 1991. When the band took off, he continued practising the trade, eventually opening an operational upholstery shop named Third Man Upholstery in 1996 in Nashville, Tennessee.

White launched his website, 'Jack White Art & Design', in 2021 to showcase his visual art.

'These Thoughts May Disappear' will be shown in London's Newport Street Gallery from 29th May to 13th September 2026. The gallery's opening hours are Tuesday - Sunday, 10am - 6pm. The exhibition is free to visit.
